The Death toll in the Kallakurichi’s hooch tragedy is increasing. As per reports, total of 47 people have died after consuming poisonous liquor. Reports tell that of them, 24 were from the same village Karunapuram. There is mourning in the village since the incident. All the deceased were cremated together on June 20. It is said that victims consumed liquor that has a high content of Methanol. Methanol is fatal and small consumption of it can lead to dizziness, blindness or in extreme conditions Death.
Three accused arrested
On the other hand, three accused in the liquor scandal have been sent to judicial custody for 15 days. They have been kept in Cuddalore jail. All three accused will remain in custody till July 5.
Some lost their son, some lost their father and brother
A woman who lost her son due to poisonous liquor said while crying that her son had a lot of pain in the stomach. He was not able to open his eyes properly. When we took him to the hospital, initially he was not even admitted. It was said that the son was drunk. And then the son died later. The woman further said that the government should close the liquor shops.
More than 100 victims of the incident are undergoing treatment in Kallakurichi Government Medical College as well as in other hospitals. Everyone is complaining of difficulty in breathing, poor vision and severe pain in the body.
