Karnataka Police arrests third accused in Hampi rape case

Koppal [Karnataka]: Karnataka police have apprehended the third suspect in the Hampi rape case, who had been on the run since the incident on March 6. The accused, identified as 27-year-old Saranabasava, was arrested in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and brought back to Karnataka.

According to Koppal Superintendent of Police Ram Arasiddi, the arrest was made possible through information and technical assistance. Two other suspects, Sai Mallu and Chethan Sai, were previously arrested in connection with the case.

The incident involved two women, including an Israeli national, who were allegedly raped near the Hampi heritage site. A male tourist accompanying them was found dead. The victims were attacked while stargazing near the Tungabhadra Canal. The perpetrators allegedly assaulted the men and sexually assaulted the women after demanding money and petrol.

SP Arasiddi stated that police have heightened security measures and increased patrolling in the area, including inspecting resorts and conducting surprise visits to prevent further incidents. Authorities are taking the case seriously and will pursue all legal procedures necessary.
