Mumbai: Congress’ first list for Maharashtra assembly elections will be released on October 20. The party’s Maharashtra election screening committee held a meeting at Himachal Bhawan in Delhi on October 16. Ramesh Chennithala, the party’s in-charge for the assembly elections, said, ‘We will have another meeting on October 20 After which the candidates will be announced.
On the other hand, BJP also held a meeting of the Central Election Committee in Delhi and discussed the party candidates. BJP sources said that discussions have taken place on more than 100 seats. The names of the candidates can be announced in the next seven days.
The Election Commission announced the Maharashtra assembly elections on October 15. Voting will be held on November 20 in a single phase on all 288 seats of Maharashtra. The result will come on November 23. The term of Maharashtra Assembly will end on November 26.
Mahayuti i.e. Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP Ajit Pawar faction is in power in Maharashtra. It will be a big challenge for the party to manage anti-incumbency and division of votes among 6 big parties.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, out of 48 seats in Maharashtra, the INDIA alliance got 30 and NDA got 17 seats. In these, BJP got 9, Shiv Sena got 7 and NCP got only 1 seat. BJP lost 23 seats. NDA got 41 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In 2014, this figure was 42. That is, less than half.
According to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP will be reduced to around 60 seats. In a survey of the opposition alliance, MVA i.e. Mahavikas Aghadi has been estimated to get 160 seats out of 288 seats in the state. The Maratha movement is the biggest challenge for the BJP. Apart from this, after the rift in Shiv Sena and NCP, people have sympathy with Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar.
