Bhopal: In a tragic incident in Gura village, Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district, an elderly man lost his life, and several others were injured due to a bee attack. The event unfolded on Wednesday evening while a villager was conducting a ‘havan’ after returning from the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

The smoke from the ritual seemingly agitated a nearby beehive, causing the swarm to attack the villagers. The victim, 75-year-old Premlal Kol, was unable to escape in time and succumbed to the stings before receiving medical help.

Authorities are investigating the incident, with the investigating officer noting that Premlal’s age likely hindered his ability to flee. His body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and results are pending.

While other villagers were also stung, they are reported to be safe. The chaos from the bee attack led to a stampede, with individuals seeking shelter by jumping into water or hiding in their homes. Premlal attempted to escape to a field but tragically fell and was overwhelmed by the bees. His body was discovered four hours later, approximately 200 meters from the site of the havan. Ten others were injured and hospitalized following the incident.
