Prayagraj: Prayagraj is gearing up for Mahakumbh 2025, with extensive security arrangements made to ensure the safety of the estimated 45 crore attendees during the event, which runs from January 13 to February 26. Uttar Pradesh’s Director General of Police, Prashant Kumar, reported that a circular security system has been established with 102 checkpoints along seven key routes leading into the city.
In line with directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, around 40,000 police personnel and cybercrime experts are employing advanced surveillance technology, including AI-powered monitoring and drones. A multi-layered “impenetrable security chakravyuh” surrounds significant locations, and mock drills have been conducted in collaboration with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and other security agencies.
Key rituals, known as Shahi Snan, will occur on January 14, January 29, and February 3. The Mahakumbh, which takes place every 12 years, attracts millions of pilgrims to the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.
