Raichur: Two minors, including a mentally challenged girl, have reportedly been raped in the Raichur and Hassan districts of Karnataka, according to police statements on February 6.
In Raichur, a second-grade student was allegedly assaulted after being taken from her school van by the perpetrator, who is from the same area. The girl was first admitted to the Manvi Government Hospital and later transferred to the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). Her parents expressed anger towards the school management for allowing their daughter to leave with someone they didn’t know. Authorities have also questioned a school staff member responsible for managing student entries and exits on that day.
Meanwhile, in Hassan district, another case involving a mentally challenged girl was reported. The accused, a neighbor, entered the family home while they were attending a relative’s function and offered the girl chocolate before assaulting her. When her parents returned, they found her in distress and took her to the hospital, where medical examinations confirmed the sexual assault. The suspect fled his home upon learning of the incident, and the victims’ parents have filed a police report, prompting a manhunt for him. Investigation into both incidents is ongoing.
