In Khagaria district, Bihar, a mother and her son were found murdered inside their home in Mahddipur village on Monday morning. The victims, identified as 60-year-old Phul Devi and 35-year-old Pankaj Kumar, were shot dead, and Pankaj also had his throat slit with a sharp weapon.
Initial investigations suggest the killings are related to a land dispute involving 8 bighas of land. The victim’s daughter, Savita Kumari, told police that her mother and brother were attacked while they were sleeping.
She explained that there has been a longstanding conflict between the families involved. Her father, Saatan Singh, is in jail over the dispute. Savita believes the attack was an act of revenge related to a previous incident where a relative from the opposing family was killed.
Police officials suspect the murder may have occurred on Sunday night. They are actively investigating, conducting raids to catch the culprits. According to reports, the family has provided some names of suspects, and an FIR has been registered under relevant murder sections.
The bodies have been recovered and sent for a post-mortem examination at Khagaria’s Sadar Hospital. The police have also summoned the FSL team to collect evidence from the crime scene.
This tragic case highlights the rising violence related to land disputes in rural Bihar, where such conflicts often lead to serious crimes.
