New Delhi: The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea regarding the transparency of NEET PG 2024 results on Friday, as candidates await the counselling schedule. Aspirants are frustrated by last-minute changes to the examination format and other discrepancies. The Medical Counselling Committee will announce the NEET PG Counselling Schedule 2024 only after the Supreme Court makes a ruling on this matter.
Additionally, the Supreme Court granted a two-week extension to a High-Level Committee of Experts that was established by the Central Government to address the NEET-UG examination issue. This decision was made on October 21 after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta indicated that the panel’s report is nearly ready but requires more time for completion.
The Union Ministry of Education formed the seven-member committee, led by former ISRO Chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, on June 26 to propose measures for ensuring that the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts examinations fairly and transparently. This formation was a response to a Supreme Court request for information on how the government plans to uphold the integrity of the NEET exam in the future.
While the Supreme Court has declined to mandate a re-test, it directed the expert panel to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for various processes related to exam administration, such as registration timelines and the sealing of OMR sheets. The court previously instructed that the committee’s report should be submitted to the Ministry of Education by September 30, and the Ministry is to decide on the committee’s recommendations within a month of receiving the report.
