New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended Moti Ram Jat, a personnel of the CRPF, for allegedly passing sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence officers. According to an official statement, Jat was engaged in espionage activities for Pakistan and had been transmitting classified national security details to Pakistani operatives since 2023. The agency also revealed that he received funds from these Pakistani officials through various channels.
Moti Ram Jat was taken into custody in Delhi and is currently in NIA detention until June 6. The agency is conducting ongoing interrogations to establish further details.
This arrest comes amid increased vigilance against subversive activities following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, especially after the recent Pahalgam terror attack. Over the past two weeks, security agencies have detained at least 12 individuals from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh on espionage charges connected to a Pakistan-linked spy network operating in northern India.
Among those caught is a YouTuber, Jyoti Malhotra, who has a subscriber base of around 3.77 lakh on YouTube and 1.33 lakh followers on Instagram. He, along with 31-year-old Guzala from Punjab, was reportedly in contact with Pakistani officer Ehsan-ur-Rahim, also known as Danish, stationed at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
Authorities are still investigating whether more individuals are involved in espionage against India, and several YouTube channels are being scrutinized in connection with these cases, according to a senior Haryana official.
