One killed, eight injured in multi-vehicle collision on Singupuram highway in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh

Srikakulam [Andhra Pradesh]: A tragic accident early Saturday morning on the Singupuram highway resulted in one death and eight injuries. The collision involved a private bus operated by Kambheswari Travels, traveling from Koraput in Odisha to Berhampur, and a lorry ahead of it.

According to Srikakulam Rural Station Inspector Jayaram, the bus struck the lorry in front of it, leading to injuries for eight people, including the driver. All injuries were minor, and three of the wounded are currently hospitalized in Srikakulam.

Following the initial crash, a granite-loaded lorry coming from behind braked suddenly upon witnessing the collision. This caused the granite stones to shift forward, severely damaging the vehicle. Tragically, the lorry driver died in the subsequent accident.

Inspector Jayaram stated that the bus driver likely fell asleep during the early hours, causing the crash. Emergency workers responded promptly, transporting the injured to hospital for treatment.

In a separate incident on May 13, four people—including three women laborers and a driver—died in an accident in Palnadu district. A vehicle carrying the women, all residents of Gaddamadipalli village in Erragondapalem Mandal, collided with a coconut-laden lorry on the Guntur-Kurnool National Highway near Shivapuram in Vinukonda Mandal.

Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy expressed profound sorrow over this tragedy, extended condolences to the families of the deceased, and instructed authorities to provide free and efficient medical care to the injured. He assured full support and assistance to those affected by the accidents.
