New Delhi, June 9: The northwestern region of the country is in the grip of severe heat these days. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the heatwave in Rajasthan on Monday. Sri Ganganagar in the state was the hottest place in the country on Sunday. A temperature of 47.4°C was recorded here.

According to the department, the mercury may reach 47 degrees in the Bikaner division by June 11. Meanwhile, dusty winds may blow at a speed of 30 to 40 kmph. Apart from this, the temperature may also rise in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking about monsoon, it is still stuck on the Bihar-West Bengal border. It is expected to reach Madhya Pradesh by June 15.

The highest rainfall was recorded in May

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that since the records of rain have been kept (year 1901), the highest rainfall has occurred in May this year. This year, the country received an average of 126.7 mm of rain. This is 106% more than the long-period average (LPA) of 61.4 mm.

Central India received 100.9 mm of rainfall in May 2025, the highest since 1901, the IMD wrote in a social media post.

People were rescued in Chaten on Sunday as well

A military camp in Chaten was hit by a landslide on the evening of June 1. At least 28 people and 20 jawans stranded in Chaten in North Sikkim after landslides triggered by heavy rains cut off road connectivity in the area were airlifted on Sunday.

Efforts are underway to locate the missing soldiers. Before the rescue, about 2,000 tourists were stranded for several days in Lachen, Lachung and Chungthang towns of North Sikkim due to bad weather.

10 June- Heatwave alert has been issued in Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Heatwave conditions are possible. Heavy rains are expected in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

11 June- Heatwave alert has been issued in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rains may occur in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh.
