Patna Metro Tunnel Mishap: 2 workers dead, 8 injured after machine malfunctioned at construction site

Patna: During the construction of the metro tunnel in Patna, the brake of the soil lifting machine malfunctioned due to which 2 workers died. The bodies of the workers who were hit by the vehicle were torn into many pieces. Tunnel work is going on 60 feet below the ground near Patna University, during which this accident happened late on Monday (28 October).

The workers told that at the time of the accident more than 25 people were working in the tunnel. Suddenly the brake of the machine failed and it fell on the workers working underground.

People present on the spot said that there was chaos after the incident. The workers started running here and there to save their lives. The engineers and other workers working in the tunnel also came out. At present the work has been stopped. After the incident, many officials of the metro fled from the spot. The workers also created a ruckus at the site.

The work of laying the track by removing soil was going on in the tunnel about 60 feet below the under-construction Patna University Metro Station. The machine to remove soil was running on the track. Around 24 to 25 people were working on the track during this time. The brake of the soil removal machine failed and it moved forward crushing all the people. Due to this malfunction, one laborer died on the spot while another died during treatment. Around 8 people have been reported injured after following the mishap.
