New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate Veer Bal Diwas today at the Bharat Mandap in the national capital, where he will launch the ‘Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan.’

The event, set to begin in the afternoon, will emphasize the crucial role of children as the future of India. The ‘Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan’ aims to enhance nutritional outcomes and overall well-being by improving the implementation of nutrition-related services and encouraging active community involvement.

Various initiatives will take place across the country to engage youth, raise awareness about the day’s significance, and promote a culture of courage and dedication to the nation, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office.

A series of online competitions, including interactive quizzes, will be organized through the MyGov and MyBharat Portals. Additionally, activities such as storytelling, creative writing, and poster-making will be conducted in schools, Child Care Institutions, and Anganwadi centers.

The event will also feature the awardees of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP), who will be honored by President Droupadi Murmu. The 17 recipients, comprising seven boys and ten girls, will receive medals, certificates, and citation booklets as recognition, as stated by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.

The Prime Minister will address the attendees during the program.

On January 9, 2022, PM Modi declared December 26 as Veer Bal Diwas to honor the martyrdom of the sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji, who were martyred in 1704.

During the conflict between the Mughals and Guru Gobind Singh, the Guru’s family became separated after a fierce battle near the Sarsa River. After their capture, Mughal emperor Aurangzeb offered the young Sahibzadas safety if they converted to Islam. Refusing to forsake their faith, the two younger sons, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, were sentenced to death and bricked alive in a fort in Sirhind (Punjab), becoming symbols of unwavering faith and bravery.

Veer Bal Diwas serves not only to commemorate the martyrdom of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh but also to honor the sacrifices of all four of Guru Gobind Singh’s sons and the courage they demonstrated. Their martyrdom embodies Sikh ideals of faith, sacrifice, and resilience in adversity, reinforcing the legacy of the Khalsa and the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh.
