PM Surya Ghar scheme to empower citizens to become energy producers: Pralhad Joshi

New Delhi: On January 25, Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, announced that the PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana aims to empower citizens by enabling them to become energy producers and earn additional income by selling electricity back to distribution companies (discoms). He made these remarks while addressing 750 special guests invited by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to witness the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi.

Joshi emphasized that, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the common people are central to India’s renewable energy revolution, showcasing their dedication and success as a testament to the nation’s potential. He referred to the beneficiaries of the PM Surya Ghar and PM Kusum schemes as the true ambassadors of India’s renewable energy movement, praising their role in advancing the country’s renewable energy goals.

During the event, several beneficiaries shared their experiences, expressing gratitude for the timely subsidies and the user-friendly registration process on the PM Surya Ghar portal, which has resulted in substantial savings and zero electricity bills due to solar installations. For instance, a beneficiary from Dharwad, Karnataka, reported achieving zero electricity bills after receiving a ₹78,000 subsidy from the central government, illustrating PM Modi’s vision for sustainable energy solutions nationwide.

Additionally, Rakesh Rohi, a PM Kusum beneficiary from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, shared how installing solar pumps on his farm, made possible by the scheme, significantly increased his crop yields.

The special guests also visited the PM Sangrahalaya, where Nidhi Khare, Secretary of MNRE, noted that the ministry is eager to learn from beneficiaries to enhance the implementation of these schemes.
