Ajmer (Rajasthan): Heavy rainfall in Ajmer, Rajasthan, caused waterlogging in several parts of the city and led to water entering the Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, a government-run facility. A local visitor reported that rain had been ongoing since 5 AM, resulting in water seeping into multiple sections of the hospital.
In response, Ajmer Municipal Corporation’s Health Officer, Prithviraj Singh, advised residents to stay indoors and avoid waterlogged areas, especially as a “red alert” has been issued by the weather department. He urged the public to steer clear of affected zones like Brahampuri, Sunheri Colony, Aam Ka Talab, and New Govind Nagar, where teams of engineers, sanitation workers, and healthcare personnel are actively working to address waterlogging issues. They are conducting repairs, removing soil, and managing broken valves to clear the flooding.
Singh emphasized the importance of public cooperation in avoiding travel to flooded areas to ensure safety. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “heavy rainfall” red alert for east and west Rajasthan, predicting up to 79 mm of rain in Ajmer today, with temperatures ranging from 22.5°C to 29°C.
Additionally, IMD reported that a depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh had shifted west-northwestward at 17 km/h over the past six hours. It was centered near latitude 26.3°N and longitude 79.0°E, around 20 km south of Etawah, and is expected to continue moving across northwest Madhya Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan over the next 24 hours.
