Rajasthan CM receives fifth death threat in 15 months

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has received his fifth death threat in the past 15 months, officials from his office confirmed on Thursday.

The latest threat was sent via email to the official IDs of the Chief Minister and Neeraj K. Pawan, President of the Rajasthan Sports Council and an IAS officer. The email included graphic warnings of violence, stating, “If the police do not act in the rape victim’s case, we can murder the CM. We will cut him into pieces.” A similar threat was directed at Pawan, with the message: “We will cut him into pieces and pack him in a black suitcase.”

Since assuming office, Sharma has faced multiple threats. On February 21, 2024, a prisoner in Dausa Jail under the POCSO Act made two threatening calls to him within ten minutes. Earlier, on July 27, 2024, a call from Shyalawas Jail prompted a search at Jaipur Central Jail, leading to the seizure of mobile phones and the arrest of a suspect attempting to smuggle a SIM card. In January 2024, an inmate from Jaipur Central Jail, also under the POCSO Act, called the police to threaten the CM.

Authorities are currently investigating the origin of the latest email and working to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Meanwhile, Sharma attended the Tiranga Yatra on Thursday, which started from Jaipur’s Albert Hall to celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor and to thank the armed forces. During the event, he expressed pride in the efforts of the soldiers who attacked terror bases in Pakistan and praised the government’s role in the operation.
