From Roadside Dhaba to 100 Crore Eatery: Success story of Murthal’s Amrik Sukhdev

Amrik Sukhdev, a renowned dhaba on NH-44, has become a beloved dining destination over the decades, attracting people from far and wide to enjoy its famous tea and delectable parathas. People passing from NH44 make a mandatory stop at Amrik Sukhdev for their late night cravings.

What began as a modest roadside eatery has grown into a thriving business with an annual turnover of ₹100 crore.

In a recent Instagram post, social media content creator Rocky Saggoo Capital shared insights into the business founded by Sardar Prakash Singh in 1956. Describing it as an “empire,” Rocky revealed that Amrik Sukhdev generates approximately ₹8 crore monthly, equating to ₹27 lakh per day, by serving 9,000 to 10,000 customers daily.

The dhaba employs around 500 staff members to manage its extensive operations. Initially, the eatery operated from a simple tent, offering traditional meals like dal, roti, sabzi, and chawal.

The business saw a significant turning point in 1990 when the founder’s sons, Amrik and Sukhdev, joined the venture.

Without relying on promotions or advertisements, the dhaba gained widespread fame through word-of-mouth. Today, Amrik Sukhdev is not only a household name in India but also a global icon, earning a place on TasteAtlas’ list of the ‘100 Most Iconic Restaurants in the World’ in January this year, thanks to the progressive efforts of its owners.
