Spanish President Pedro Sanchez has arrived in Vadodara, Gujarat, for a three-day visit to India, where he is set to engage in delegation-level discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Upon his arrival, the MEA welcomed the Spanish leader on social media, stating, “Bienvenido a India!” and highlighting that this is the first visit by a Spanish President to India in 18 years. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that this official visit aims to enhance India-Spain relations.
In a message on social media, President Sanchez expressed his intention to revive bilateral relations, emphasizing India’s significant role in the international community and the need to address shared challenges.
The Spanish President was greeted by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri at Vadodara International Airport. During his stay, he will inaugurate the Final Assembly Line Plant for C295 aircraft, a key “Make in India” project in the aviation sector, in collaboration with Tata Advanced Systems and Airbus Spain, alongside PM Modi.
Vadodara has been beautifully decorated in anticipation of President Sanchez’s visit. After Vadodara, he will travel to Mumbai, where he will engage with trade and industry leaders, think tanks, and the film industry. He will also address the fourth Spain-India Forum organized by the Spain-India Council Foundation and the Observer Research Foundation.
Additionally, he plans to visit major film studios to foster collaboration between the Indian and Spanish media and entertainment sectors. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit, which will enhance bilateral cooperation across various domains, including trade and investment, IT, innovation, infrastructure, renewable energy, defense and security, pharmaceuticals, agro-tech, biotech, culture, and tourism, as stated by the MEA.
