Stampede at Bandra Railway Station in Mumbai, 9 injured

A stampede at Bandra railway station in Mumbai early Sunday left at least nine people injured as passengers attempted to board a train bound for Uttar Pradesh amidst a heavy pre-Diwali rush. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported that the incident occurred on platform number 1 while passengers were gathering for the Bandra-Gorakhpur Express (train number 22921).

Of the injured, seven are in stable condition, while two individuals are critically hurt. The injured passengers were quickly transported to Bhabha Hospital, with Railway Police and other bystanders aiding in the rescue. Videos captured during the incident showed a railway officer carrying an injured person, and others depicting victims lying on the ground with blood stains.

The BMC has stated that the situation at the station is under control. Initial reports from the medical team at Bhabha Hospital confirmed that nine injured passengers were treated following the chaos. The injured have been identified as Shabhir Abdul Rehman (40), Parmeshwar Sukhdar Gupta (28), Ravindra Harihar Chuma (30), Ramsevak Ravindra Prasad Prajapati (29), Sanjay Tilakram Kangay (27), Divyanshu Yogendra Yadav (18), Mohammad Shareef Shaikh (25), Indrajith Sahani (19), and Noor Mohammad Shaikh (18). Indrajith Sahani and Noor Mohammad Shaikh were reported to be in critical condition.

According to the Indian Railways ACP, the total number of injured was ten, with two individuals having already been discharged. The stampede was attributed to the train’s rescheduling, as passengers attempted to board the moving train, which consisted of 22 general bogies without any reserved compartments. When the train arrived, the crowd surged to board, resulting in the stampede.
