Paonta Sahib, June 14: The minor girl who had been missing since June 5 from the Majra area of Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district has been recovered by the police, officials confirmed on Saturday. Following the girl’s recovery, local protests spearheaded by residents and Hindu organizations were called off.

According to police officials, the girl was located in the Majra region. Her statement will be formally recorded before the authorities proceed with reuniting her with her family. The police are expected to complete legal formalities, including a medical examination and documentation under relevant provisions of the law, before handing her over.

Earlier, DC Sirmour, seeing the tense atmosphere, had imposed Section 163 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) in the Kiratpur area, so that the crowd could be prevented from gathering at one place. There was a ban on carrying weapons and inflammable substances. Police vigil was tightened outside Majra police station amid the fear of a crowd and violent protests.
