Madurai (Tamil Nadu): A fire broke out at a paper warehouse near the Vaigai South Bank area on Wednesday. Firefighters responded quickly and managed to control the blaze within an hour. The fire destroyed two parked vehicles inside the warehouse. Videos show firefighters and locals working together to extinguish the flames. Further information is awaited.
In a separate incident in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district, an explosion at a private firecracker manufacturing unit in Vetrilaiyurani village under Sivakasi taluk resulted in one death and injuries to five others. The blast occurred around 8:45 am on Sunday. The victim, identified as 50-year-old Balagurusamy, died immediately, while the injured were rushed to a nearby government hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin instructed authorities to ensure the injured receive prompt and advanced medical care. He also announced financial aid: Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund for the family of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh each for the seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 each for those with minor injuries.
