Three dead, flight ops suspended as heavy rain wreaks havoc across Nagaland

Nagaland: Incessant monsoon rains over the past few days have led to severe flooding, resulting in the deaths of three people and widespread damage across the state. In Dimapur, two individuals, including a woman, were electrocuted inside their homes after floodwaters entered residential areas during the weekend.

These tragic incidents occurred in Burma Camp and Kuda Village, where residents waded through chest-deep water to escape rising floods.

The heavy rainfall also caused the complete suspension of flight operations at Dimapur Airport on Sunday, with multiple flights cancelled, including those by IndiGo and Air India Express. Floodwaters inundated runways and parking areas, disrupting travel.

Additionally, National Highway 29, linking Dimapur and Kohima, faced landslides and blockages, severely hampering vehicular movement. Many districts, including Dimapur, Kohima, and Niuland, reported submerged bridges, damage to homes, farms, and fisheries, raising concerns about food security.

Around 70 villages in Niuland were affected, while residents in Dimapur’s Half-Nagarjan navigated floodwaters using boats. Authorities continue evacuations, but with more rain forecast, officials remain on high alert to manage the ongoing crisis.
