Patna: In a disturbing incident in Patna, three family members were shot in the Arfabad area under Alamganj police jurisdiction on Monday morning. The attack occurred around 9:15 a.m. when the husband, wife, and their daughter were on their way to the market and were targeted by two assailants on a bike.

Patna City ASP Atulesh Jha confirmed the shooting, noting that both the woman, Mahalaxmi Mehta, a retired nurse at NMCH, and her daughter are in critical condition, with gunshot injuries to the chest, stomach, and back. The husband, Dhananjay Mehta, was wounded in the leg. The injured were immediately taken to NMCH for medical care.

Preliminary investigations suggest that personal enmity might be a possible motive, but authorities are considering all angles. The victims’ statements, once they recover, are expected to provide more clarity. The assailants fled from the scene, and police are analyzing CCTV footage and collecting evidence, including spent cartridges, to identify them.

This incident has heightened fears among residents in the crowded and narrow Alamganj area, reflecting growing concerns over rising instances of firing in Patna’s congested localities.
