Three youths drown in Indrayani River in Pune

Pune (Maharashtra): At least three young individuals drowned in the Indrayani River in Kinhai village, Pune district, on Friday evening, according to officials. The victims, identified as Gautam Kamle, Rajdilip Achme, and Akash Vittal Gode, were from the Gurukul Chikhali area in Pune.

Vikram Bansode, Senior Police Inspector at Dehu Road Police Station in Pimpri-Chinchwad, reported that they were informed that 4-5 boys had gone swimming in the river, and three of them tragically drowned. Upon receiving the alert, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire brigade, and local residents arrived at the scene. The bodies of the three youths were recovered and sent to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital for post-mortem procedures.

“By 6 pm, the rescue team located the individuals, and they were rushed to a hospital, where they were declared dead,” said Senior Police Inspector Bansode.

In a separate incident on the same day, four children drowned in the Ulhas River in Thane while attempting to wash off Holi colors. The victims were identified as Aryan Medar, Aryan Singh, Siddharth Singh, and Om Singh Tomar.

Earlier on Friday, the Maharashtra Police launched a crackdown on drunk driving during Holi celebrations in Pune. Checkpoints were set up at 91 locations across the city, with 5,000 police personnel and 500 officers deployed to monitor and prevent accidents caused by impaired driving.
