New Delhi: Rouse Avenue Court heard the bail plea of Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested in the Delhi liquor policy case, for the second consecutive day on Thursday (20 June). The vacation bench of Judge Nyayabindu reserved the verdict after hearing the arguments of ED and Kejriwal.
Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju, who appeared on behalf of ED, said that ED has not conducted any investigation in the air. There is strong evidence against Kejriwal. He should not get bail. At the same time, lawyer Vikram Chaudhary, who appeared on behalf of Kejriwal, said that the entire case against Kejriwal is based only on imagination.
Kejriwal was arrested on 21 March. He was sent to Tihar Jail on 1 April. The Supreme Court granted him interim bail on 10 May. After being out on bail for 21 days, Kejriwal surrendered in Tihar at 5 pm on 2 June. Kejriwal’s judicial custody ended on Wednesday, which was extended by the court till July 3.
ED said- AAP committed a crime, the in-charge will be held guilty
On Wednesday, ED had said that Kejriwal had sought a bribe of Rs 100 crore from South Group for his party. ED had said that if Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), named as an accused in the case, commits a crime, then the in-charge of this party will be held guilty. Kejriwal sought a bribe of Rs 100 crore from South Group. AAP cannot say that Kejriwal is not guilty.
Kejriwal’s argument- The whole case is based only on statements
Kejriwal’s lawyer said on ED’s allegations- The whole case against the CM is based on statements. He will not be surprised if some more statements come out. Delhi CM also has no criminal history. These statements have been made by those who have considered themselves guilty. Those people are not saints. It seems that some of them were arrested and statements were recorded by promising bail.
Hearing on the demand to conduct medical examination in the presence of wife
Kejriwal had also filed a petition in the court demanding the presence of his wife during the medical examination. This was also heard in the court. Chaudhary said that there should be no bias in this matter. Whenever someone is admitted to the hospital, his wife or his attendant is also allowed to go.
After this, the court asked what the jail officials have to say about the matter. Kejriwal’s lawyer Vivek Jain said that the jail officials are saying that Kejriwal is not being taken out of the jail, so his wife cannot stay with him.
