Union Minister Giriraj Singh emphasized the urgent need for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Jharkhand, asserting that the tribal population in the state has plummeted from 44% to 28%. Singh linked this demographic shift to policies under the Hemant Soren-led government, claiming that Islamic laws are influencing governance, including altered school schedules.
Further reinforcing this stance, BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan declared the party’s intention to implement the NRC in Jharkhand, alleging that the current government is favoring infiltrators for vote bank politics. With the BJP preparing to unveil its election manifesto, Chouhan insisted that the upcoming assembly elections will focus on “saving Jharkhand” from demographic changes caused by immigration.
The BJP has also rolled out five key initiatives, ‘Paanch Prana’, targeting the state’s youth and women as part of their campaign strategy. Jharkhand’s assembly elections are slated for December 2024, with the current government’s term ending in January 2025.
