Agartala (Tripura): During an event in Agartala for the release of the 18th installment of the PM-Kisan scheme, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha highlighted the importance of farmer development for the country’s progress. He announced the launch of a Unified Farmers Database to gather information about farmers, link land records, and carry out real-time crop assessments.
Additionally, the government plans to establish two Centres of Excellence to promote scientific farming of fruits, vegetables, and flowers, as well as to provide high-quality planting materials. CM Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that farmers in Tripura would receive approximately ₹47.68 crore, following the benefit of about 2.59 lakh farmers from the previous installment. To date, the state has received ₹737.49 crore, with the new installment adding another ₹47 crore.
He emphasized that the annual support of ₹6,000 for farmers would help them purchase necessary items like paddy and seeds. Saha remarked that such assistance was unheard of in the past and credited PM Modi for introducing various initiatives since 2014 that have marked a turning point for the country. He pointed out the significant economic growth under Modi’s leadership and praised the Direct Benefit Transfer system, which allows funds to be directly transferred to beneficiaries’ accounts without middlemen.
Furthermore, he mentioned that around 13.89 lakh farmers in Tripura are benefiting from the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, while the state’s own Mukhya Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana has assisted 3.81 lakh farmers. The Unified Farmers Database has already recorded 3.3 lakh farmers, with plans for further digitization of farmer registrations, crop surveys, and land records linkage. Saha also highlighted the establishment of two Centres of Excellence in Lembuchara and Birchandra Manu to facilitate advanced agricultural practices and ensure the availability of quality planting materials.
