Baramulla (Jammu and Kashmir): In the context of the ongoing stand-off between India and Pakistan following their recent understanding to cease hostilities, Baramulla police have been notified about the presence of twenty unexploded ordnances (UXOs) spread over 17 villages in the district. Following the safe clearance of these ordnances, the district administration has allowed residents from six of these villages to return to their homes.

In a statement, Baramulla Police said, “We have been informed about 20 UXOs across 17 villages. After their safe disposal, evacuees from six villages have been permitted to go back.”

Meanwhile, in early hours on May 7, the Indian armed forces launched “Operation Sindoor,” targeting nine major terror camps linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PoK). Out of these, five camps were located in PoK, with four in Pakistan itself. Notably, camps in Muridke and Bhawalpur were significant as they served as residences for key commanders and hubs for radicalization, training in intelligence, and arms handling for LeT and JeM. Among those neutralized was Rauf Azhar, brother-in-law of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar, wanted for his role in the IC-814 hijacking conspiracy.

Additionally, a joint press briefing in New Delhi was attended by Lieutenant General Rajeev Ghai (Director General Military Operations), Vice Admiral A N Pramod (Director General Naval Operations), and Air Marshal A K Bharti (Director General Air Operations). They confirmed that India struck 11 Pakistani airbases, inflicting considerable damage on their military capabilities. The officials praised the success of “Operation Sindoor,” which aimed to dismantle terror infrastructure inside Pakistan; the operation also resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists.

The military actions were carried out with precision across land, air, and sea, deliberately minimizing civilian casualties. This development follows India’s recent military response to a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in 26 deaths. The operation targeted militant camps in various locations, including Muzaffarabad, Kotli, and Bahawalpur, and was part of a broader effort to neutralize terrorist activities and infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK.
