Twin murder in Kerala: Deceased's children seek death penalty for accused

Palakkad: The children of a 54-year-old man, who was fatally stabbed alongside his mother, are calling for the death penalty for the accused.

Sudhakaran was killed by his neighbor, Chenthamara, who had been released on bail after previously murdering Sudhakaran’s wife in 2019.

Akhila and Athulya, the victims’ daughters, expressed their anguish, stating, “Chenthamara killed our mother in 2019 and was imprisoned. After his release, he went on to murder our father and grandmother. He is now arrested, but he’ll likely be released again and could kill again.” They questioned the motive behind their father’s brutal stabbing, emphasizing the severity of the attack and asserting, “He should be hanged to death; otherwise, he will continue his violent behavior.”

On Monday, Chenthamara, who had been out on bail for two months, viciously murdered Sudhakaran and his 76-year-old mother, Lakshmi.

Palakkad Police Superintendent Ajith Kumar reported that Chenthamara was apprehended around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday. “After committing the crime, he fled into the forest behind his house,” the police noted. He was captured while attempting to return home after several hours without food.

Chenthamara is expected to be presented in court later today, and the police plan to take him into custody again after a few days to reconstruct the crime scene, as stated by Ajith Kumar.

Following the news of his arrest, a large crowd gathered outside the Nenmara Police Station, demanding Chenthamara’s release for punishment. The situation escalated, leading police to use pepper spray and batons to disperse the crowd.
