Two arrested with heroin near LoC in J&K’s Rajouri

Jammu: Two narcotics smugglers were arrested on Monday in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, where authorities seized 5.50 kg of heroin from them. The operation aimed to thwart the smuggling of illegal drugs across the Line of Control (LoC) was conducted by police and the army in the Nowshera sector. The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Sahab Kumar and 36-year-old Subhash Chander, were captured during a joint operation in the Sher and Kaneti forward villages late Sunday evening.

Additionally, on Sunday, Border Security Force (BSF) troops recovered 495 grams of contraband that had been dropped by a drone sent from Pakistan in the Arnia sector of Jammu district.

To combat this issue, a high-tech anti-drone system has been installed along the international border in the Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts. The Inspector General of BSF for the Jammu frontier stated during a press conference that this system has significantly reduced the likelihood of drones being utilized from the Pakistani side to deliver weapons, drugs, and cash.

It is important to note that various terrorist groups, with assistance from the Pakistani army and Rangers, have been using drones to smuggle these items across the border. These deliveries are intended for collection by terrorists and their local supporters to disrupt peace in the region.

Following the recent Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections, there has been an uptick in terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces believe that this resurgence has caused concern among the terrorist handlers across the border, prompting them to push for a last-ditch effort to sustain terrorism in the region.
