Two found dead in road construction pit in Ranchi, police launch probe

Ranchi: The bodies of two young men were found in a pit dug for a road construction project in the Tatisilwai area of Ranchi, according to officials on Thursday.

The victims have been identified as Sandeep Sahu and Gopal Sahu, both residents of Darha village under the Sisai police station in Gumla district.

The bodies were located near the roadway between Ara Gate and Sanatorium in the jurisdiction of the Tatisilwai police. Local residents alerted the authorities after noticing the bodies in the excavation, part of an ongoing road project.

A motorcycle and a revolver were also discovered in the pit, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation.

Initial assumptions indicated a potential accident, with suggestions that the two men may have lost control of their bike and fallen into the trench. However, the presence of the firearm has raised concerns about possible foul play.

As news of the incident spread, a large crowd gathered at the site. Police arrived promptly and initiated a preliminary investigation.

Photographs of the deceased were circulated among police stations in Ranchi and neighboring districts, leading to their identification.

Ranchi Headquarters DSP Amar Kumar Pandey stated, “We have recovered the bodies of two youths from the pit, along with a motorcycle and a revolver. The investigation is being conducted from various angles.”

Authorities are working to establish whether the deaths were the result of an accident or a more sinister crime. The police are also in contact with their counterparts in Gumla district to gather background information on the victims, including any prior criminal records.

Family members of the deceased have arrived in Ranchi and are being questioned by investigators to assist in the probe.

Police sources indicated that further insights will become available after the post-mortem reports are received and a forensic examination of the weapon and other items from the scene is completed.
