Raipur: Two women were killed and 35 others injured when a pickup truck, en route to a “Chouthiya” marriage-related function, lost control and overturned near Palani Pat in the Kotwali police station area of Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district (formerly Kawardha).
The victims, identified as Urvashi Sahu and Mukhin Sahu, died at the government hospital following the accident. While the exact age of Urvashi has not been confirmed by police, reports suggest she was around 14 years old.
An eight-year-old girl is in critical condition and is being treated, while five others are also in critical condition. The injured were rushed to the hospital, with the most seriously affected referred to Raipur for further care.
The pickup truck, which belonged to a Sahu family, was transporting relatives to a post-wedding function in Sahaspur-Lohara. The truck was one of two carrying around 100 people, and it overturned in a field located 10 feet below the main road. The family was from Singhanpuri village.
Local residents immediately contacted the police, and ambulance and rescue teams arrived at the scene to assist the victims. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle was traveling at high speed when it lost control.
Upon hearing about the accident, Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma instructed the district administration to begin relief efforts immediately. Several critically injured individuals were taken to private hospitals for treatment. The Deputy Chief Minister also ordered the use of all available ambulances to ensure that the injured were not inconvenienced.
Pandaria Assembly constituency legislator Bhavna Bohra visited the hospital to offer support to the victims and their families. She later expressed her condolences on social media, assuring that the health department was providing the best care for the injured and wishing them a swift recovery.
