Unnao Road Accident: 18 killed as Double Decker bus collides with milk tanker, PM announces ex-gratia

Unnao: A double-decker bus and a tanker collided in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. 18 passengers on the bus died in this tragic accident. As per reports, at least 30 people are injured and undergoing treatment. Among the dead are 14 men, 2 women and 2 children. The accident took place near Bangarmau Kotwali on Lucknow-Agra Expressway in the early hours of Wednesday.

The collision was so severe that one side of the bus was completely destroyed. The passengers sitting inside came out and fell down. They died on the spot. DM and SP reached the spot. Videos of the accident have surfaced. In these, it is seen that dead bodies are scattered outside the hospital.

The police said that the accident took place at 5.15 am. The bus was moving at a high speed on the expressway, at the same time a milk tanker coming from behind tried to overtake it. During this time, it collided with the bus. The tanker tore through the bus from one side. The tanker overturned further ahead.

The police have admitted the injured to Bangarmau CHC. Doctors have referred the seriously injured to Lucknow Trauma Center. The bus was going from Siwan in Bihar to Delhi.

Prime Minister’s office in a post on X said, “The road accident in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh is extremely painful. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this. May God give them strength in this difficult time. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way: PM Modi”

Prime Minister has also announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for kin of deceased and Rs 50,000 for injured in the Unnao Road mishap.
