Uttar Pradesh: IT firm employee dies by suicide in Agra, blames wife in live-streaming video

Agra: An employee of an IT firm, identified as Manav Sharma, died by suicide after reportedly live-streaming the incident on social media. An FIR was filed at the Sadar Bazaar Police Station following a complaint from his father, who cited troubled relations between Manav and his wife.

In the live video before his death, Manav attributed his decision to his wife. DCP Agra Suraj Rai stated, “On February 27, 2025, we became aware of a video on social media in which a man was speaking live before taking his own life. We have registered a case based on this video and a complaint, and we will investigate all claims and take action based on the evidence.”

Manav Sharma, a recruitment manager at an IT firm, lived in Defence Colony in the Sadar area. According to the FIR, his father, Narendra Kumar Sharma, reported that Manav married a local woman, Niketa, on January 1, 2024, without any dowry. Since the marriage, she allegedly did not treat him or his family well, often becoming angry over minor issues and causing conflicts at home.

The FIR claims that while Manav was working in Mumbai, he took his wife with him, but she reportedly fought with him daily and threatened to die by suicide, stating she would implicate him in a case. Despite his father’s reassurances that things would improve, the situation did not change, and Manav reportedly suffered from depression due to the mental harassment.

On February 23, 2025, Manav returned to Agra with his wife, but after visiting her maternal home, he faced humiliation from her family, which contributed to his distress. He returned home feeling overwhelmed and died by suicide by hanging himself on February 24. His father informed the police and took Manav to the Military Hospital in Agra, where he was pronounced dead.
