Uttarakhand government issues toll-free helplines for Mahakumbh devotees

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has announced toll-free numbers to assist citizens attending the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. In a message posted on X, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s office stated, “Following the directives of our Honourable Chief Minister Shri @pushkardhami ji, toll-free numbers have been established to support Uttarakhand residents at the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Bath.” Citizens traveling to the Mahakumbh can call these numbers—1070, 8218867005, and 90584 41404—for any assistance they might need.

Additionally, Mahakumbh DIG Vaibhav Krishna mentioned that authorities are investigating the causes of a stampede-like situation that occurred earlier on Wednesday. He stated that the Amrit Snan is about to begin, and police along with the administration will support all akharas in their traditional processions. “Everything will proceed in accordance with tradition… The situation is under control, and we are examining the factors that led to this morning’s incident, which was caused by a large influx of devotees,” said Krishna, noting that over 10 crore devotees are expected.

SSP Kumbh Mela Rajesh Dwivedi clarified that what occurred was not a stampede, but rather overcrowding that resulted in injuries. He assured that the situation is completely under control and urged people not to believe any rumors. He indicated that all preparations for the Amrit Snan have been finalized, and many ghats have been developed to facilitate the dipping process for devotees. As of noon, approximately 42.4 million devotees had already taken a holy dip at Triveni Sangam where the second Amrit Snan is being celebrated on Mauni Amavasya, after a brief pause in the arrival of saints following the earlier incident.
