Uttarakhand: Helicopter crashes in Uttarkashi; 5 dead, 2 seriously injured

Uttarkashi, May 8: A helicopter crashed in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, on Thursday. There were 7 people on board the helicopter. 5 passengers died, 2 are seriously injured. The accident happened near the Bhagirathi River in Gangani, Uttarkashi. The helicopter was going to Gangotri Dham. The administration said – 4 men and 2 women were on board the helicopter. Captain Robin Singh was its pilot.

The helicopter had taken off from Dehradun’s Sahastradhara helipad carrying tourists. They were to land at Kharsali. From Kharsali, the passengers were to go to Gangotri Dham. The passengers in the helicopter are said to be from Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh. Four of them were from Mumbai and two from Andhra Pradesh. The helicopter belonged to the private company Aerotrans Service.

Storm and rain alert on the Chardham route

The weather has been bad in Uttarakhand for the last few days. The Meteorological Department has issued a storm and rain alert in many districts. It is raining lightly at many places on the Chardham Yatra route. At some places hail has also fallen along with thunder.
