Uttarakhand Weather Alert: Heavy rains trigger flood risk; More than 70 roads closed, Char Dham Yatra affected

Dehradun, July 8: The Meteorological Department has issued a high alert for rain in 6 hill districts of Uttarakhand. According to the Meteorological Centre, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Champawat, Bageshwar and Nainital districts.

Apart from this, a yellow alert has been issued in other districts of the state regarding heavy rains. This can also lead to waterlogging and floods across the state.

Passengers are also asked to stay in safe places

After the high alert issued by the Meteorological Department, the State Emergency Operations Centre has written a letter to the DMs of 6 districts. In the letter, the District Magistrates of all the districts have been instructed to remain alert in view of the heavy rains as well as to control the traffic. Along with this, the pilgrims coming for the Char Dham Yatra have also been asked to stay at safe places.

Due to late-night rain, waterlogging occurred at many places in Dehradun

On the other hand, due to heavy rains since late night, many areas, including Dehradun, have been waterlogged. Due to the digging done by ADB across the city, mud and waterlogging on the roads is causing problems in movement. School children also faced a lot of difficulty in going to school early in the morning. Water entered many houses in the Banjarawala area of ​​Dehradun. Due to which people stood outside all night, the police reached the spot and provided relief to the people.

More than 70 roads are closed across the state

At the same time, 70 roads are closed due to landslides caused by heavy rains in the hilly areas of the state. These include many NHs and state highways. The Char Dham Yatra route is also affected due to landslides.

Travelers have been stopped at different places. The Rishikesh-Gangotri highway is still said to be closed near Ojri. Even this morning, the highway was closed due to debris near Ratudi Sera.

According to the data released by the State Emergency Operations Center, five roads are closed in Rudraprayag, one NH in Uttarkashi and eight rural roads. Four roads are closed in Dehradun and eight in Tehri district, one in Nainital, 20 in Chamoli, nine in Pithoragarh, three in Almora, eight in Bageshwar, one in Champawat and six in Pauri.
