Voting for first phase of three tier panchayat elections commences in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: The first phase of the three-tier panchayat elections is taking place today in 53 blocks of Chhattisgarh. Visuals from a polling station in Nimora village captured voters casting their ballots.

Earlier in January, the Chhattisgarh Election Commission announced that the panchayat elections would be conducted over three phases on February 17, 20, and 23, with results set to be declared on February 18, 21, and 24, respectively.

On February 15, Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda praised Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and BJP workers for their success in the recent civic polls, where the party secured mayoral positions in all ten municipal corporations and chairperson roles in 35 municipal councils and 81 Nagar Panchayats.

Nadda described this achievement as a “historic victory,” indicating the people’s trust in the public welfare initiatives launched under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a post on social media, he congratulated CM Sai and the BJP team in Chhattisgarh, framing the win as a testament to the citizens’ confidence in the welfare and tribal-friendly schemes provided by the double-engine government led by Modi.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai claimed that their candidates won all ten mayoral seats with significant margins. He declared it a “historic day” for the Chhattisgarh BJP and criticized the Congress party, stating they did not secure a single seat in the civic polls. Sai expressed gratitude to voters for their trust in the BJP and PM Modi, noting the elections for 173 urban bodies, including ten municipal corporations, 49 municipal councils, and 114 Nagar Panchayats, took place on February 11.
