Will not accept development at cost of livelihood: Iltija Mufti

 

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti on Saturday said that the development at cost of livelihoods of Kashmir peoples will not be accepted by the valley.

Speaking with the reporters during a prortest aganist the preposed railway line in Ananthnag which will pass through the orchards Iltija said that it will impact the livelihood of thousand of farmers.

She also said that thye Kahmiri people have not opposed the development of any project but if it comes on the cost of livelihood they will not accept it.

“These farmers depends on their orchards whgich is the source of liovelihood for thousand in the south Kashmir,” she said.

She further said that many farmers have taken loans to cultivate apple and walnut trees in their orchards. However if it will be taken away from them where these people will go, She will critising the Omar led National confrence government.

Iltija highlighted the issue of unemployment in the state said the valley have no private sectoir where youths will get the employment added if these thimngs will not be stopped lakhs who depends on these orchards will came on streets.

“Horticulture is their primary source of income, and you are taking that away from them,” she alleged.

Expressing concerns about the environmental fragility of the region, Iltija Mufti said, “We are well aware of the environmental and ecological fragility in J&k. We will not accept development at the cost of our environment. Therefore, we reject the state government’s proposed railway line through Liver. We are here to protest against it.”
