Youth in Delhi support NDA govt's move to introduce 'One Nation, One Election' Bill in Parliament

New Delhi: The youth in Delhi have shown strong support for the NDA government’s controversial ‘One Nation, One Election’ Bill, which was introduced in Parliament on Tuesday. The Lok Sabha saw 269 MPs voting in favor of the bill, while 198 opposed it.

Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal presented two bills aimed at facilitating simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, including Union Territories.

Many young residents expressed their enthusiastic backing for the bill. Montu Kumar Yadav, a Delhi resident, stated, “Today, the framers of our Constitution have triumphed. There’s a new vigor among us. The presentation of this bill in Parliament reflects a public revolution. We will engage with MLAs and MPs who oppose it to explain its benefits.”

Rishabh Rohila also voiced his support, noting that over 250 MPs, including those from the ruling BJP, opposition parties, and independents, have backed the bill. He emphasized that it would save the country significant resources, allowing for more judicious spending.

Pratham Singh mentioned that he has met with several MPs in support of the bill and received positive feedback. He believes that implementing this bill will lead to substantial financial savings by conducting simultaneous elections.

While BJP and its allies, including the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU), support the bill, opposition parties like Congress, Samajwadi Party, and Nationalist Congress Party have called for it to be reviewed by a Joint Parliamentary Committee. Other opposing parties include Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC), Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP), and MK Stalin’s Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
