New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said India has secured the deportation of alleged narco-trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh from Türkiye, describing the development as a “historic milestone”.
Navpreet Singh brought back to India
Shah said in a post on social media platform X that Singh had obtained Turkish citizenship using the fake identity of Navab Virk and continued to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine to India from Afghanistan.
“Our agencies tracked him down, ripping apart veil after veil to unmask his true identity, and secured his deportation,” Shah said.
The Home Minister said Singh has now been brought back to India and put behind bars in connection with cases involving drug trafficking and other crimes he is accused of.
Agencies tracked accused in Türkiye
According to Shah, Indian agencies traced Singh despite his use of a different identity and secured his deportation in coordination with the authorities in Türkiye.
Singh is accused of operating a cross-border drug trafficking network involving the movement of heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan to India.
The development comes as Indian agencies continue efforts to locate and bring back suspects accused of operating international narcotics networks from abroad.
Shah reiterates anti-narcotics commitment
Congratulating the agencies involved in securing Singh’s return, Shah said the government remains committed to tackling international drug trafficking networks.
“The Modi govt is committed to destroying every narco-cartel before Dec 2029,” he said.
The latest development follows other cases in which Indian agencies have coordinated with foreign authorities to bring back wanted drug-trafficking suspects.
