Srinagar: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday conducted searches at multiple locations across Kashmir in connection with an ongoing investigation, official sources said.
According to sources, raids were carried out in several areas of Srinagar and Shopian districts as part of the agency’s crackdown on alleged terror-related activities and anti-national networks.
Raids Conducted in Srinagar and Shopian
One of the searches was conducted at Jamia Siraj Ul Uloom in Imam Sahib, an institution that had earlier been banned by the Centre over alleged terror links and anti-national activities.
Another NIA team searched the residence of former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shahzada Aurangzeb in the Molu Chitragam area of Shopian district.
The operations were jointly conducted by the NIA, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF personnel.
Investigation Linked to Alleged Terror Activities
Sources said the searches are part of an ongoing investigation, though officials have not disclosed specific details about the case or confirmed any detentions during the operation.
In February 2024, the Centre extended the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu Kashmir for another five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), citing alleged involvement in terrorism, separatist activities, and anti-India propaganda.
The organization was first banned in February 2019 ahead of the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
