Washington, DC: The White House has confirmed the appointment of Nick Stewart as an adviser to its diplomatic team engaged in negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing conflict with Iran, according to reports.
Experienced Policy Expert Joins Delegation
White House spokesperson Olivia Wales described Stewart as a “sharp, seasoned policy expert” who will support Special Envoy Steve Witkoff’s team. She noted that Stewart has prior experience in Iran-related policy work, including roles in the U.S. State Department during the first Trump administration and on Capitol Hill.
Background in Defense Policy Circles
Officials said Stewart’s appointment was facilitated through senior advisory channels. Before joining the diplomatic team, he was associated with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a think tank known for advocating a tough stance on Iran.
Diplomatic Efforts Amid Iran Counter-Proposal
The appointment comes as Iran has submitted a counter-proposal to a U.S.-backed peace framework. Tehran has reportedly presented a 14-point plan through mediators, seeking structured terms for ending hostilities.
Iran is also demanding sanctions relief, security guarantees, and a quicker timeline for resolving disputes, while rejecting a long-term ceasefire proposal.
Ongoing Tensions and Negotiations
Former President Donald Trump, commenting on the developments, said he remains cautious about Iran’s intentions but is open to reviewing the proposal. Meanwhile, both sides continue diplomatic engagement amid rising regional tensions.
