New Delhi: BJP National President Nitin Nabin will chair a meeting of the party’s general secretaries on Thursday to discuss the current political situation, opposition protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and preparations for upcoming elections in five states.
The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi. Party leaders are expected to review the opposition INDIA bloc’s protests against the SIR process and the Election Commission, along with the political developments surrounding the issue.
Preparations for upcoming election-related programmes in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa will also be on the agenda. The party is expected to discuss its organisational strategy and plans for political activities in these states.
BJP Reviews Response to Opposition’s SIR Protests
The meeting comes amid a political dispute over the SIR exercise, with Congress and other opposition parties raising allegations of “vote theft” and protesting against the Election Commission.
The BJP has been seeking to counter the opposition’s campaign by mobilising its leaders and workers. Thursday’s meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the party’s senior leadership to discuss its response and review its organisational preparations.
Nitin Nabin Leads ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ March
On Wednesday, Nabin led a march through Delhi’s Chandni Chowk as part of the BJP’s ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ campaign. The march took place amid rising political tensions over the SIR exercise and the opposition’s allegations concerning the electoral process.
During the march, Nabin also targeted the Gandhi family and criticised the Congress over its political record.
Referring to the Congress faction formed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in January 1978, known as Congress-I, Nabin said it stood for “Italian Congress” rather than “Congress-Indira”. He also described the party’s electoral defeats as a form of “purification” by citizens.
The BJP’s latest organisational meeting comes as the party prepares to intensify its political activities and election-related programmes in the five states.
