Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal appealed to the people not to panic due to fake news of floods being circulated on social media as no such incident has been reported in the district so far.
Reacting to rumours of floods in Jalandhar Cantonment area, Dr Aggarwal said that the district administration is keeping a close watch on the situation and the situation is under full control.
He said that some low lying areas were inundated due to rising water level of Chitti Bein due to overnight rains in the catchment area, which was wrongly reported as flood water on social media.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed that the district administration is fully prepared to deal with any emergency. For this, adequate relief centres and necessary material have already been made available.
A district level flood control room helpline number 0181-2224417 has been set up and a state level control room number 0181-2240064 is also operational where citizens can get information or assistance. Appealing to the people to remain vigilant and avoid rumours, Dr Aggarwal assured that the Punjab Government and the district administration are fully committed to protect the interests of the public.
