Sindh, April 7: A sharp rise in petrol prices in Pakistan has triggered protests across multiple provinces, with people taking to the streets to express their anger over rising living costs. The sudden hike has hit citizens hard, especially those already struggling with inflation and daily expenses.
Massive Increase Behind the Outrage
Petrol prices recently crossed around PKR 450 per liter after a steep increase of over 40%, while diesel prices surged even higher.
This sharp jump came within weeks, making it difficult for many families to manage basic expenses.
Protests Spread Across Provinces
Demonstrations have been reported in several regions, including Sindh where political and social groups called for public protests against the hike.
Citizens, transport workers and labor groups have all voiced concern over the rising cost of fuel and its impact on daily life.
Government Forced to Respond
Facing backlash, the government announced temporary relief measures, including reducing petrol prices by around PKR 80 per litre and offering free public transport in some areas.
However, many people say the relief is not enough given the scale of the increase.
