In the village of Nara in Panipat district of Haryana, a couple (mother-in-law and father-in-law) committed suicide by consuming sulfathiazole, troubled by their daughter-in-law’s behavior, attire, and frequent quarrels. The deceased have been identified as 46-year-old Rajesh and his 44-year-old wife Suman. After this incident, mourning spread throughout the village, and questions have arisen regarding the dignity of relationships.
They fell in love on social media, then got married
The family revealed that Rajesh and Suman had a only son, Ashish. Ashish got acquainted with Sneha, who lives in Delhi, through Facebook and Instagram. The two were in a relationship for around two years. Later, in January 2025, they had a love-cum-arranged marriage with the consent of their families. The parents were hopeful that with the arrival of the daughter-in-law, joy would come into the house, but disagreements began just a few days after the marriage.
The main controversy was about dress and Delhi culture.
It is being told that Sneha grew up in the modern environment of Delhi and she was not ready to adapt to the village environment after marriage. She was not willing to leave the culture of Delhi. There were often interruptions in the house about his dress and lifestyle, which gradually took the form of a great tribulation. Suman and Rajesh wanted the daughter-in-law to live in a dignified manner, but Sneha did not approve of this restriction.
Daughter-in-law assaulted and son accused of bias
Family members allege that Sneha often misbehaved and beat up her mother-in-law Suman. The saddest part was that the only son, Ashish, instead of supporting his mother, used to side with his wife Sneha. The parents were hurting the son inside. On Saturday afternoon, there was a huge dispute in the house about the same thing, after which Rajesh and Suman swallowed a poisonous substance (sulfas) under mental stress.
Died in the hospital, could not be saved even at PGI
When their condition worsened, both were immediately taken to the Civil Hospital in Panipat. After examination, the doctors declared Suman dead on the spot. Meanwhile, Rajesh’s condition was very serious, and after initial treatment, he was referred to Rohtak PGI. On Sunday morning, Rajesh also died during treatment. There is silence in the village as two funerals have come from the same house.
