Panipat: A minor boy died after a flag he was carrying touched high-tension power lines during a procession in Panipat early Wednesday. Gaurav, who was leading the group dressed as Lord Hanuman, suffered severe burns from the electric shock. He later died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
The incident took place near Hari Singh Chowk at around 1.30 am. Gaurav was a resident of Bhola Chowk in Ward No. 6 and had joined the group with his friends. As they moved through the street, the flag he was carrying came into contact with overhead power lines.
The sudden shock left Gaurav critically injured and caused panic among the others in the group.
Family Took Him to Hospital
Gaurav was first taken to the government hospital in Panipat. Doctors referred him to PGI because of his critical condition. His family instead took him to a private hospital in the city, where he died during treatment.
His body was later brought to the government hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Gaurav was the only brother of two sisters. His father had already passed away, making the loss especially painful for the family.
Residents Raise Concern Over Low-Hanging Wires
Local residents have alleged that the power lines in the street hang dangerously low and said similar accidents had happened there in the past.
Residents Ishwar Chand, Mukesh, Satish and Dimple said the height of the wires needed attention to prevent another such incident. They believe the flag struck the overhead lines because they were too low.
The boy’s death has left his family and friends in mourning. The incident has also renewed local concerns about the safety of overhead power lines in the area. The exact circumstances of the accident and the condition of the wires will need to be established by the concerned authorities.
