New Delhi: Delhi Police has registered a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) on a complaint filed by Saheb Singh in connection with the alleged slapping incident involving Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma.
The development comes a day after a video showing Verma allegedly slapping a man during a road inspection in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area went viral on social media.
Kejriwal Demands Verma’s Arrest
The incident triggered a political exchange between the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal alleged that Verma slapped a young man during the interaction and demanded his immediate arrest.
Verma rejected the allegations and said the man involved was an AAP worker who had allegedly abused his family. He also claimed that the person had an earlier FIR related to the alleged assault of an MCD official.
In a subsequent video, Verma warned that he would not tolerate attempts by AAP workers or MLAs to obstruct Delhi government development work or threaten government officials and contractors.
What Is an NCR?
A Non-Cognizable Report is a police record of a complaint involving an alleged non-cognizable offence. Generally, police cannot arrest a person or investigate such an offence without the permission of a magistrate, subject to applicable legal provisions.
The registration of the NCR means the complaint has been formally recorded by Delhi Police. Further action will depend on the allegations, applicable legal provisions and any subsequent investigation or court directions.
The controversy comes amid an ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and AAP in Delhi, with both sides making allegations over the incident.
