Patna: A jewellery shop owner was seriously injured after being shot during an alleged robbery attempt at his shop in Patna’s Kankarbagh area on Friday night, police said.
Deepak Kumar, owner of Aanchal Alankar Jewellers, sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and is undergoing treatment in the ICU of a private hospital. His condition is reported to be critical.
According to police, the incident took place at around 10 p.m. when Deepak was inside the shop with its front shutter partially closed and the rear door open.
Wife Confronts Armed Intruder
Preliminary investigation suggests that an armed man entered the jewellery shop through the rear entrance in an alleged attempt to carry out a robbery.
Deepak’s wife noticed the intruder and confronted him. Deepak then joined her in resisting the alleged robbery attempt, leading to a struggle inside the shop.
During the confrontation, the accused allegedly opened fire, hitting Deepak in the abdomen. The injured shop owner collapsed, while the assailant fled from the spot, leaving the pistol behind.
Police said the accused had allegedly arrived with another person on a motorcycle. While one suspect reportedly waited outside, the other entered the shop.
Pistol, Magazine and Cartridges Recovered
After being alerted, police reached the spot and rushed Deepak to a nearby private hospital.
A pistol was recovered from the crime scene. Police teams are also examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the accused and establish the sequence of events.
SDPO Sadar-1 Manoj Kumar said an FSL team has also been called to examine the crime scene. Police teams are conducting raids at possible locations to apprehend the absconding accused.
An FIR has been registered at Kankarbagh Police Station under relevant sections relating to robbery and attempt to murder against unidentified assailants.
The incident has raised concerns among local traders, particularly jewellery shop owners, over the security of commercial establishments in the area.
